Bakers July 24 Concert - April 29, 2016

Dear Friends

I am pleased to inform you thst I will be returning to Bskers Keyboard Lounge at 8 Mile and Livetnois, Americas oldest Jazz Club on Sunday July 24 2916.

The format will be OGD as usual with the players to be announced soon!

Merry Christmas to all my dear fans and friends!! 2014 - December 22, 2014

Dearest Fans & Friends:

As you may be aware, 2014 was an extremely tough year for me due to an un-anticipated emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix.  I want to thank all the personnel at St Joes Mercy in Ypsilanti and Dr Pomerantz for their excellent care in taking care of me.  It was really great, and even though I spent my birthday in the hospital, I recovered from the surgery within a 6 week period spending about 20 days in the hospital.

I am hoping for a better 2015, more gigs ect, and have employed a noted promotion company to promote my latest CD "On the Loose" which I did with the help of Hammond Organist Pat Bianchi and drummer Carmen Intorre Jr.  With this help, you should be hearing it soon on National Public Radio.

I want to thank every one of you that has reached out to me in 2014, all the club owners and especially Hugh at Bakers Keyboard Lounge in Detroit where we had a great gig on Dec 5 with Hammond Organist Mark Lo Duca and drummer Wendell Robinson.

Lets hope for a prosperous 2015 and Happy Holidays to All!!!!

Sometimes Rosemary and I attend jazz related events but more times than not I go it alone. In any case over any given period of time I see a hell of a lot of jazz and the one thing that bothers me most is when I’m part of an unreasonably small audience listening to some outstanding entertainers. Why? – If I knew the answer we’d all be rich! I have seen Mike Fageros perform on several occasions and for what ever reason the attendance has been less than it should have been. Coming again on Saturday, March 24 the Mike Fageros Trio with Hammond Organist Duncan McMillan will be appearing at Jazz Central and this event is sponsored in part and endorsed by the Jazz Advocate Ron Gable. You have my word; this will be an outstanding performance.

Houston Mourns the Passing of Bluesman Ozell Roberts 4/10/09 - April 13, 2009

Dearest friends and fellow musicians. We are mourning the passing of a great American Bluesman this past weekend. Ozell Roberts passed after a long illness in Houston Tx 4/10/09. Ozell was a great guitarist and singer and frequently played at Shakespears on Memorial in west Houston as well as other venues. His technique and approach to the guitar was completely unique. He used his thumb as a pick and it had a sensational sound. The way that he expressed himself was one of unique artistry that really needed to be recorded. When Ozell played and sang, people stopped and listened as his roots took him all the way back to another great bluesman from our Hometown Houston that made it big. This man was noneother than Albert Collins who had made records for years and performed on the chitlin' circuit until he moved to California and made it big. Collins played the telecaster and was responsible for such hits as Frosty, The Freeze and others and since Ozell and Collins had such a close relationship, you could actually hear the simularity in their playing.

There will be a Memorial Benefit in Houston to raise funds for his family and his burial. Please contact Laurie Solis at 713-614-9999 for any information concerning Ozell and the Memorial Benefit.

We Miss You Ozell- Dearly

Gypsy Picks Available - July 26, 2008

On a recent trip to Amsterdam, I met a true innovater who is manufacturing custom Gypsy Picks fabricated out of bakelite, the same material that billiard balls are made of.

These picks are beveled on both sides and come in varying shapes and reduce pick resistance against the strings thereby making it easier to pick and as well adds pick speed to any guitarist's abilities.

These are better that the Wegen picks as they never wear out due to the material that they are fabricated with.

They can be obtained through me by calling 281-704-3456 in limited numbers.
